1971年，當麥連喺讀完一本講梵高成世嘅書後就寫咗呢首歌嘅歌詞[2]，用手風琴、顫音琴、弦樂器同結他配樂。當年，呢首歌一度成為英國單曲排行榜嘅第一名[3]，並喺美國攞到第12名[4]。告示牌排行榜將《文森》排喺1972年百強榜（英文：Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1972）嘅第94名，成人當代音樂第2名[5]。

呢首都係梵谷博物館日日跟住梵谷畫作播嘅歌[2]。2000年，公共電視網播咗喺德克薩斯州奧斯汀搞嘅專場音樂會「Don McLean: Starry, Starry Night」。
